Accessibility in Budapest

Quick First Layer

Levels of accessibility

1. Streets & Public Spaces

2. Museums & Attractions

3. Sensory Impairments

4. Accessible Toilets

Elevator maintenance: Elevators at metro stations and in underpasses may occasionally malfunction or undergo maintenance. Before traveling with a wheelchair, checking the official platforms of BKK for current service outages is necessary.
Real-time accessible routing: In the BudapestGO application, the "Step-free routing" filter can be applied, which also takes the current operational status of elevators into account during planning.
"Accessible" restaurants: Many historical downtown restaurants advertise themselves as accessible because there are no stairs at the entrance. In practice, however, their restrooms are frequently located in the basement or on a narrow gallery without elevator access. For wheelchair users, it is justified to clarify the accessibility of the restroom by phone in advance.
