Night Transport

Quick First Layer

Forms of night transport

1. Night buses (900 series)

A radial network starting from the city center towards the outer districts. Services run less frequently (typically every 30-60 minutes) than during the day.
Due to the low frequency, checking the schedule in advance (via the BudapestGO application) is necessary to avoid long waiting times at the stop.

2. Night transfer hubs (Astoria and Deák Ferenc tér)

These two squares serve as the primary night meeting and transfer points in downtown Pest.
The majority of the 900-series buses converge here. The schedule is designed so that buses wait for each other (often standing at the stop for 5-10 minutes), allowing passengers to transfer safely between different night routes.

3. Taxis and Ride-hailing

Direct door-to-door option at night.
Hailing a "freelance" taxi on the street or waiting in front of venues around the nightlife district (District VII) carries a high risk of overcharging (tourist traps). At night, pricing and safety risks can be minimized by using the official applications of contracted taxi companies, where both the route and the fare can be tracked. (Details in the Taxis & Ride Services guide).
Security on services: Budapest's night services (especially tram 6) are extremely busy on Friday and Saturday nights, with the crowd largely consisting of partygoers. Security guards frequently travel on these routes. Due to the crowds, heightened attention is required to prevent pickpocketing.
Maintenance on the Grand Boulevard: Track maintenance is frequently performed on the tram 6 line at night. During these times, replacement buses operate instead of trams. The stops for replacement buses are located on the pavement islands and may occasionally differ slightly from the regular tram stops.
